On the Campaign Trail With Mona Das
We interviewed State Senator Candidate and Armoire member Mona Das. Read on to learn about her background, her style and what she’s wearing.
Her Story
Past. First generation American, born to parents who immigrated from India. Started MOXY Mortgage, helping educate and empower first time homeowners.
Present. In the midst of a campaign for State Senate, fighting for a more sustainable economy and affordable housing within Washington State. Also a mentor to Seattle small business owners and entrepreneurs, promoting and encouraging women to take leadership positions in sustainable businesses.
Future. Advocating to give those who need it a strong voice — women, immigrants, and others in our community who are often overlooked.
What’s your style?
I like to select things that show my vibrant personality. I’m not really quiet or reserved, and I like my clothes to reflect how passionate I am. I also spend a lot of time going door-to-door, campaigning, and meeting voters, so I like things that are comfortable and look approachable.
What’s Your go-to outfit?
Any blue Eliza J dress. Dresses make it easy to maximize the number of different outfits I can get from my Armoire case, and, of course, blue because I’m a democrat. My Armoire stylists know so well what I like and what’s flattering on me, so it’s easy to find fun dresses for my campaign.
How does Armoire fit into your daily routine?
One of the most important parts of my campaign involves meeting with voters and speaking to the public, so I’m always being photographed. Armoire gives me the ability to wear something new every time, to always look put-together, approachable, and professional without having to be buying new outfits constantly.
Who’s your bosslady inspiration?
Pramila Jayapal, the first Indian-American woman to serve in the US House of Representatives. I was inspired to run after seeing a poster for her congressional bid. I stopped in my tracks and thought ‘wow’. So many of our voices are not being represented; our votes are being under-represented, and it has taken this long for people who look like us to be represented at the national level.
