Our Chief Boss Lady’s Pre & Post Quarantine Style
Armoire’s Chief Boss Lady, Ambika Singh, gives us an inside look at her quarantine style over the past few months.
Over the past weeks and months, my clothing hasn’t been the first thing on my mind – even though I am the Chief Boss Lady of this magical clothing service. The health and safety of my family, friends, and teammates has consumed me as we have persisted through the shifting landscape of the pandemic, the resulting recession and the terribly enduring but recently in focus effects of racism & police brutality.
And yet, my Armoire closet has given me comfort. It has sparked joy. I have loved the feeling of connectedness with the Armoire community, imagining the lives the garment has lived with other boss ladies, conquering mountains and molehills, comforting faces young and old, creating change big and small.
I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite looks over the last month in hopes that you will also be inspired to look around corners for a smile for yourself.
I am trying to remember that caring for oneself in these difficult times is not indulgent but necessary. To spark joy in others I have to be open to it myself. I hope that these (awkward) pictures spark some joy in you and encourage you to take some risks in your next Armoire case. Then please twirl around like the Queen you are and send me a picture. Your joy will warm my heart.

I took a risk…

Look at me! I’m a risk taker! I matched these crazy prints together and strolled around with my dog for the big outing of the day. My pup thanks the pandemic for ensuring that both Mom & Dad are at least *as* excited about walk time as he is. This Yumi Kim dress has a gorgeous open back and all the movement in the skirt, so please give yourself a dress up day present with this beauty.
I showed brand love…

My Wildfang pick! I feel deeply connected to this brand because I love everything about what they stand for. Portland-based and run by a team of ultimate boss ladies, this label prides itself on making space for everyone – whoever you are, and whatever your beautiful body is looking for that day. These overalls made good on this promise, as they were easy to style, comfy to wear, and practical with great pockets and warm but not too warm fabric.
I stayed cozy & chic…

You can’t go wrong with this.. sweatshirt/dress/cozy… everything. The drawstring gives it a bit of shape but it was really great for those (numerous) days where I just wasn’t moving off the couch but needed to keep my commitment to myself to change out of my pajamas. New day, new underwear, new clothes. No exceptions. Ok, some exceptions 🙂
I celebrated a birthday…

I rented this incredibly luxurious jumpsuit for my quarantine birthday in April and have not been able to give it up since. I used a bit of double-sided tape and went both bra and bra-less (!!)
I dined outside…

This gorgeous red Brass dress made it’s debut last weekend for my first outdoor-brewery-beer of the season. One silver lining I observed over the weekend was the sense of community at the local cider house we were at (www.locustcider.com – check them out!). People busing their own tables, inquiring, genuinely, with the staff on how they were doing in a very personal – and dare I say un-Seattle way.
I also love wearing Brass because the women behind the brand stand for everything we believe in at Armoire. They were also our very first wholesale account and took a chance on us just to help out. Please give their stuff a try!
I rocked metallic…

Whew! The quarantine sweatshirt to rule them all. I have admired this Philip Lim sweatshirt for many moons. I have thought about it. Imagined the uniqueness and luxurious feel. It did not disappoint. It is WEIRD. The texture is soft but the appearance is metallic. It’s cropped but warm. It’s full of contradictions and not like anything else I’ve worn. A true risky move for me, and I loved it.
I wore a dress…

Wahoo! So this was my most worn item. Which surprised me. I don’t always love huge prints or ruffles, but I gave this a try and loved it. The back has a tiny peekaboo that was and the length was both cozy but also warm for work from home days.
I found the perfect pair of jeans…

These jeans! I have rented these 3 times. For my body, they have the perfect “high-waist” there. It isn’t uncomfortable but also zips up my belly. I love the color, the hem & the minimal stretch. Try them. You will thank me.
I danced and smiled… in my Armoire!

These pants are AMAZING! They actually made me smile wearing them. A real smile. I am not sure what the designer had in mind, but I call them my “Stairway to Heaven” pants, and I dance to the song as I put them on.
