Serena Williams Won Her US Open Match In A Tutu, And We’re Here For It
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, we worship Serena Williams. Serena rocked a custom-designed tutu by designer Off-White (aka Virgil Abloh, Creative Director of Louis Vuitton) at this year’s US Open – and won with grace. This happened in the midst of a controversy around a catsuit she wore at the French Open, which was banned by the head of the French Tennis Federation for being “disrespectful.”

The word “Armor” has the same root as the word “Armoire,” and we like to think of clothing as the armor we as women use as we go out into the world. Here are 3 of our favorite quotes on the topic, inspiring us to keep building our movement to make every woman feel great in whatever they wear.
1. BILLIE JEAN via Twitter:
The policing of women’s bodies must end. The “respect” that’s needed is for the exceptional talent @serenawilliams brings to the game. Criticizing what she wears to work is where the true disrespect lies.

2. SERENA WILLIAMS via The Guardian:
“It feels like this suit represents all the women that have been through a lot mentally, physically, with their body to come back and have confidence and to believe in themselves.”
3. VIRGIL ABLOH via Nike
“With Serena, we have one of our generation’s most powerful, inspiring athletes as the muse. I was trying to embody her spirit and bring something compelling and fresh to tennis.”
