Armoire Vintage: A New Era of Timeless Style
At Armoire, we believe that clothing should be as dynamic, interesting, and multi-dimensional as the women who wear it. That’s why we’re thrilled to share something new (and old!) with you: the launch of our very first vintage collection. It’s a fresh chapter in our ongoing story of style, sustainability, and self-expression. Whether you’re a long-time member or discovering Armoire for the first time, we know one thing for sure: you appreciate clothing that’s equal parts effortless and elevated. You want to look great, feel amazing, and make smart choices for your wardrobe, your wallet, and the world. Enter: Armoire Vintage.
Why Armoire Vintage and Why Now?
We asked ourselves what could meet your style standards and your values. The answer was clear: Armoire Vintage.
Over the years, we heard your requests for more curated, hard-to-find pieces. More one-of-a-kind garments that turn heads and spark joy, members said. At the same time, our community is deeply passionate about sustainability and circular fashion. This new collection allows us to offer you something truly special—garments with history, personality, and a whole lot of charm. It’s a natural extension of what we already do at Armoire: provide high-quality effortless and stylish looks that turn heads.
Let’s Talk “Secondhand“
Before we dive deeper, let’s clear up some terminology because “secondhand” can mean a lot of things. Secondhand clothing simply refers to garments that were previously owned, whether worn or not. This broad category includes all of the ways fashion circulates outside of buy-new behaviors, including clothing rental. There are also peer-to-peer marketplaces (think Poshmark or eBay), consignment resellers (like The RealReal), upcycled fashion, bulk resale through thrift chains (like Savers or Goodwill), and even textile recycling processes that break clothing down into raw fibers.
With our vintage collection, we’re carving out a niche within this ecosystem. Our vintage garments are sourced specifically for their enduring quality, design, and storytelling power.
What Makes Something “Vintage”?
There’s a bit of nuance in the world of fashion lingo, so let’s break it down quickly:
- Antique clothing is 100+ years old.
- Vintage typically refers to garments that are at least 20 years old, but not yet antique.
- Retro is usually around 20 years old, often inspired by earlier styles.
- Contemporary secondhand includes more recently produced garments that had a previous life.
At Armoire, we’re zeroing in on true vintage pieces that stand the test of time. These are items with craftsmanship, detail, and character that can’t be replicated in today’s mass production.
Think intricate buttons, hand-stitched hems, lush fabrics, and silhouettes that tell a story.
The Curation Process: By Hand, With Heart
This first collection was lovingly curated by Kim, one of our in-house stylists and full-time vintage enthusiast. Kim scoured shops from Seattle to Paris, digging through racks and hunting in nooks and crannies to uncover special pieces that fit our Armoire vibe: wearable, versatile, and a little bit unexpected.
Each item in the collection was selected not only for its quality and condition, but also for its potential to fit into your modern lifestyle—whether you’re heading to brunch, an offsite meeting, or an art opening. We also worked closely across all our teams to ensure every garment met our standards for cleaning, wearability, and timeless style.

Yes, Vintage is Pre-Loved—That’s Kind of the Point
One thing we want to acknowledge upfront: vintage clothing is not “new.” And that’s part of its beauty.
You might notice a little patina on the hardware, some gentle fading, a quirky button replacement, or a belt that shows it’s pre-loved. These aren’t defects—they’re reminders that the garment already lived a life, and now it’s ready to be part of yours.
We did the work to make sure every piece in our collection meets Armoire’s quality bar, but if perfection is your thing, we encourage you to approach vintage with an open mind. The real magic is in the story.
Sizing has changed, but you haven’t
If you’ve ever tried on a vintage piece and wondered, “Wait, how is this a size 12?”—you’re not alone.
The truth is, sizing standards shifted a lot over the decades. A dress labeled a size 12 in the 1980s might fit more like a modern-day 6 or 8. That’s because sizing was based on very different measurements and body ideals and, similar to today, it wasn’t consistent across brands or eras.
When you come across a vintage piece with a size tag that doesn’t align, we want you to know: this isn’t about you, your body, or your worth. It’s about a label that no longer reflects the reality of how diverse and beautiful bodies are today.
With all the clothes we offer in our inventory, and especially when it comes to vintage, we focus on fit—not the number on the tag. That’s why every vintage piece in our collection is measured and sized based on today’s fit standards and not necessarily what you’ll see on the tag. We do our best to provide clear fit notes and recommend sizes based on how it wears now, not what’s on the original label. We welcome feedback in your reviews that may help us improve the true sizing of vintage items.
Your style story isn’t defined by a number. It’s defined by how you show up, and vintage is just one more way to show off the bold, gorgeous you.
But What About Retro? Isn’t That Trendy?
It absolutely is—and we love a good retro moment. For this launch, we focused specifically on vintage. Why? Because vintage clothing has tried-and-true craftsmanship. It was made in an era before fast fashion took hold, often with better materials and more attention to construction and details. These garments were built to last—and they did.
Retro, while fun and fashion-forward, doesn’t always offer the same level of quality. Though you might see some retro vibes in our broader inventory, our vintage line is intentionally rooted in enduring classics.
Is The Armoire Vintage Collection Designer or Luxury?
At this time, Armoire Vintage does not include high-end designer labels. While we’re big fans of a great Chanel jacket or vintage Gucci find, we’re unable to authenticate luxury pieces—and we take authenticity very seriously. We want you to trust that what you’re renting is the real deal. Until we can confidently build in that important verification layer, we’re focusing on vintage gems that are just as chic, stylish, and fun to wear.
Will Armoire Vintage be available for both rental and purchase?
You know how this goes: sometimes, a rental turns into a relationship and a favorite garment finds her way into a forever closet. If you fall head over heels for a vintage piece, you can absolutely make it yours forever. Like everything in our inventory, the Armoire Vintage collection pieces are available for purchase. Just be sure to act fast—once a one-of-a-kind item is gone, it’s really gone.
If do you add vintage pieces into your personal collection, we urge you to follow the instructions on the care tag for maintenance. Vintage can be delicate, but with proper care, it’ll continue to shine for decades more. Just renting? Professional cleaning is always on us.
More Than Just Clothes
At Armoire, we believe that clothing is more than just something you wear—it’s how you show up in the world. Armoire Vintage is here to help you show up with intention, creativity, and confidence—all while making a positive impact on the planet. So go ahead! Add a little history to your closet. Your next favorite piece might just be the one with a story.
