In today’s pics-or-it-didn’t happen world, cataloguing our every move has become the norm. As a writer and editor, I can definitely attest to that. A majority of my days are spent rocking a work outfit of a button down or a cozy sweater and jeans while I quietly toil away at my laptop and my dog sleeps on my feet. But, as someone who specializes in celebrity news and entertainment, sometimes my job requires me to attend a red carpet for an awards show or interview a celebrity in the flesh. Obviously, when opportunities like this present themselves, I need a cute outfit to boost my confidence and make me look like the polished professional that I am. That’s where Armoire comes in.

When In Doubt, Stick with Solids

I’m a prints person, but I know that if I’m wearing an animal print during an on-camera interview or posing for a pic in a busy floral, it’s distracting. So, I suggest selecting a powerful solid color that compliments your skin tone and makes you feel beautiful.

Jewel tones are your go-to when you’re on-camera. When I covered the Golden Globes earlier this year, I trusted this royal blue Nicole Miller frock would look sleek and chic on the red carpet. It didn’t hurt that it did a great job of highlighting my baby bump. If solids feel too low-key, play with textures and try sequins or velvet.

Fortune Favors the Bold

In addition to being a prints person, I’m also someone who naturally gravitates toward neutrals. As I’ve learned through experience, black can make you look like a floating head in photos and white can make you look pale. With the help of Armoire, I’ve gotten out of my comfort zone and tried basics in eye-catching colors that make a statement without being too out-there.

Take, for instance, this pink silk blazer I wore to interview Pose star Billy Porter. I paired it with white booties, a white T, ripped jeans and called it a day. It was easy, comfortable and totally popped.

Power-Clashing Is Key

To jazz-up an outfit, I always love a power-clashing element. This is best described as a look that pairs colors on the opposite spectrum of the color wheel. The two colors (yellow and blue) may be diametrically opposed, but they look really good together. And remember, you can still look professional and camera ready in an eye-catching outfit. The only qualification is that you feel comfortable and confident. (My poolside outfit may not have been professional, per say, but I definitely felt good wearing it.)
